The Three Little Pigs Fractured Fairy tale

Kia Ora Bloggers

For the last couple of weeks we have been making fractured fairy tales, I chose to make mine on the three little pigs. If you don't know what a fractured fairy tale is, it is basically where you take an original story like Cinderella and you change something i it like, instead of being a ball it was a disco or instead of dropping her shoe she dropped her phone instead.

I had a lot of fun making my fractured fairy tale although it was a bit challenging because you have to find png pictures for you're book. And if it doesn't have a transparent background you have to go on background remover and have it remove it for you.

This Is my Fractured fairy tale, enjoy.

Advanced Questions On Cicadas

Kia ora bloggers,

When reading a book, have you ever been curious about something you were reading, and wanted to find out more to help you understand what you were reading better?  We have been learning about how important this is this week in Literacy.

When we read The Magic School Bus inside the human body’ I formed some advanced questions using ‘how’ and ‘why’.  I made sure they were open ended questions that would help me understand the book more.  An example of one of my questions was “Why are intestines coiled up?’ and I then researched and found out that an adults intestine is 7.5m long, so it needs to coil up so that it fits in the body.

Next we got to chose our own book to read out of our virtual library and we had to form 3 advanced questions about it.  Our create task this week was to share these in a creative way.  I chose to do it with Biteable and it was about a book called Cicadas.

Here are my questions the I made, enjoy.

Advanced Questions On Cicadas on Biteable.

I really enjoyed this task as it made me realize how important it is to do this when reading to understand the text better.

Do you ever do further research when you are reading a book to deepen your understanding?See you next time I post.Bye

Binary & ASCII

Kia Ora Bloggers

Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII.

Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.  You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!  Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials ( O & F ) into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

What do you think?  Have you ever tried encoding anything in binary or ASCII?  Could you have a try for yourself?  Can you work out how to write my initials in ASCII from the pattern above?

Angles Adventure

Kia ora bloggers,

For numeracy today, we have started to learn about angles.

We learnt about 3 different angles today - acute (less than 90°), right angle (90°), and obtuse (larger than 90° but smaller than 180°).  We also learnt how to use a protractor to measure angles.  We know that we need to measure an angle from a vertice (a corner where two straight lines meet).

For our create task, we had to measure three different angles on the first letter of our name - can you  figure out if they are acute, right angle or obtuse?

Have you learnt the different angles? See you next time I post,Bye
